NAITC  - North American International Trade Corridor

Castle Rock has been selected to lead the development of an Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) pilot deployment for the North American International Trade Corridor (NAITC). This system will provide real-time traveler information targeted to both commercial and non-commercial travelers, covering eleven states stretching from Mexico to Canada. The pilot deployment will demonstrate integrated and cost-effective ATIS technologies in the NAITC Corridor, including Low Power FM (LPFM) Radio, 511 Traveler Information, a traveler information website, and Variable Message Signs.

A significant achievement under this deployment will be the integration and adaptation of Advanced Traveler Information Systems components with Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) for commercial vehicle operations, thus bridging the gap between traditional ITS and CVISN initiatives.

This system will be developed around the Condition Acquisition and Reporting System (CARS), which will be used for data assembly and information creation. The CARS system will drive the delivery of traveler information content through a variety of dissemination mechanisms. This will ensure that all types of travelers in the NAITC Corridor and beyond will have ready access to pertinent real-time traveler information content.

This ATIS pilot deployment will serve as a blueprint for expanding advanced traveler information services throughout the North American International Trade Corridor. A Corridor Level ITS Architecture that is compatible with the National ITS Architecture will guide current and future deployment.

Some of the key features of this project include extensive use of Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) technology and the use of an open architecture approach that is compliant with National ITS Standards, including the National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol (NTCIP) and the Traffic Management Data Dictionary (TMDD).

ATIS Elements Included:

■ Condition Acquisition and Reporting System (CARS)

■ Low Power FM (LPFM) Radio and HAR
