The ENTERPRISE Program was established in 1991 through an agreement between four U.S. states with common interests in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Since then, ENTERPRISE has grown into a multi-national consortium dedicated to the advancement of ITS. ENTERPRISE provides a focus for coordinating ITS developments and for sharing results within and outside the program. The Program’s organization and funding is based on a pooled-fund approach between the member states in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
The innovative pooled-fund approach of ENTERPRISE supports joint sponsorship and collaborative development of ITS projects among the member agencies. Each year, members contribute funds in support of innovative ITS projects of mutual interest, and an annual work plan is developed. These projects typically involve private sector partners working with designated member agencies. Agencies that participate in the ENTERPRISE program share technological and institutional experiences in order to provide mutually beneficial lessons for all involved. |
